Classes

General

At Robin Horneff’s Performing Arts we pride ourselves on creating an environment for your child that is both fun and professional. Our distinguished instructors combine their dance expertise with a sincere desire to see your child succeed and feel good about themselves. Whether it’s just to learn a few steps or become a professional dancer, RHPAC will take you there.

All levels and ages are taught dance terminology, dance technique, and dance combinations from September through March. We do NOT start teaching our routines in September or October to make us look good in a dance concert. Children become bored with the repetition of this method and all they have learned is one dance number. Starting in March, they are taught a professionally choreographed piece to perform in our Annual Dance Concert.

Star Is Born

Our Star is born program, ages 2 1/2-6, introduces your child to the most popular forms of dance: ballet, tap, and jazz. Typically, children within those age ranges have a shorter attention span so we switch the form of dance every 20 min. to keep their interest. Additionally, we feel that constant encouragement and praise cultivates a love and enjoyment of dance. We bring that attitude to each one of our classes. It’s very important to us at RHPAC that your child learn proper technique and terminology, but above all we want them to have fun.

IMPORTANT: Our Star is Born program is staffed with teachers that in addition to being dancers, have either a background in Dance Education or Elementary Education. We do NOT employ high school or college age students to teach your children.

Ballet

Each ballet class consists entirely of technique and is partitioned into barre work, port de bras, center barre, adagio, and allegro. Children spend approximately thirty minutes of each class at the barre in order to acquire the strength, balance, and placement necessary to execute center work correctly.

Ballet is the foundation from which all forms of dance originate.
Therefore, our staff recommends that all students take ballet to ensure proper technique and form.

Ballet/Lyrical

Lyrical is a fluid style of jazz dance blending movements from classical ballet and modern dance which expands the student’s sense of interpretation and movement. This class combines the fundamentals of ballet with lyrical, starting with a ballet warm-up and then moving to the center floor.

Tap & Jazz

Our Tap and Jazz Department is headed by Robin Horneff and staffed with dance professionals who recognize and nurture each child as an individual-building their self-confidence, self-esteem, and self-worth. The styles of tap taught are those of Fred Astaire and Gene Kelly, with whom Robin worked on several projects. We have never found techniques or stylizations that could improve upon either Kelly or Astaire. Therefore, their methods are taught here at RHPAC. Our Jazz Department concentrates on traditional jazz techniques updated with the modern and hip-hop stylization. Jazz technique develops strength, coordination, and the controlled movement of each part of the body.

Hip-Hop

The newest form of jazz which redefines and reinvents many early vernacular jazz dances and movements. Hip Hop incorporates some of the basic jazz techniques, such as turns, jumps, and flexibility but with an edge, danced to contemporary music. This is the style you see on music videos. A totally fun class for all ages and abilities.
